Balding

Balding

So I have a real nice 6 month old from a reputable breeder. When I went to pick up the pup, one of the other ones had a bald tail. Now 4 months later mine has developed a bald spot. Any suggestions as to what this might be and if it is correctable?

This is not a terribly uncommon occurance in our breed. The area where the tail balds -- usually a couple of inches up the tail from the beginning of the tail -- is where the scent glands appear in many animals esp. wild animals. Why the spot balds is a curiosity but it does and eventually it will fill back in. You can try rubbing some oil in the area to promote growth.

Kathy I thought they called this stud tail. And that it was an oil gland . Two of my dogs had this and maybe it was my imagination but I thought their coat was a little more oily. Great in water. Never bothered the dogs or me. In fact one was CH Silvercreek Manhattan Skyline Murray MH QAA
